Franklin N. Allwine, 85, of Honolulu, a retired U.S. colonel, died Sunday in the Veterans Administration Center for Aging. Born in Washington, D.C., he is survived by wife Margaret; daughters Patricia Childs and Francine Sapla; brother Gilbert; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mechelle H.N.S. “Shelly” Carvalho, 41, of Waimea, Hawaii, a park caretaker with the Hawaii County Parks and Recreation, died last Tuesday in Kona Community Hospital. She was also a cosmetologist.
