Polynesia canoeing
sails onto the Web

Since 1973 the Polynesian Voyaging Society has been planning, supporting and launching remarkable travels across the Pacific.

A complete account of how the canoes, starting with the Hokule'a, ignited a new source of Hawaiian pride is available at http://leahi.kcc.hawaii.edu/org/pvs/pvs.html.

The site is such an extensive exploration of the art of canoes and nontraditional navigation that just exploring the Web pages could become a high school class project.

There is also a detailed plan for the society's expedition to Rapa Nui next year, including monthly updates on the team's training schedule.

"Home on the Web" is a weekly Friday feature of the Star-Bulletin.
