


Pam Kometani, one of four Hawaii golfers trying to earn a playing card for next year's LPGA Tour, had a 36-hole score of 150, which was 15 strokes behind leader Marianne Morris yesterday at the LPGA Final Qualifying School. Kometani trails by
15 strokesKometani, who is tied for 82nd place, shot a 74 yesterday in the LPGA final qualifying event at Daytona Beach, Fla., to lead the Hawaii contingent. Christel Tomori shot 73--152, Nicole Horner 78--154 and Julie Miyagi 79--155.
The 128-player field will be cut to the low 70 scores and ties after today's third round.
MIDNIGHT OHANA SET: The 11th Midnight Ohana, the first peek at the Hawaii men's and women's basketball team, begins at 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct, 16, at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Carnival games are located around the concourse with thousands of dollars in prizes available. The teams will be introduced at 11:45 p.m. followed by the first official practice of the season at 12:01 a.m.
Back to defend his slam dunk title is Erin Galloway, who is expected to be challenged by newcomer Geremy Robinson and his 43-inch vertical jump. The Wahine and Rainbows also will have a 3-point shooting contest.
Halftime of the men's scrimmage will be highlighted by the Shot at Tuition where UH students get a chance to make a 3-pointer that is worth a semester's tuition.

WAHINE SAILOR QUALIFIES: University of Hawaii sailor Laura Rehg has qualified for the ICYRA Women's Singlehanded National Championship, scheduled for Oct. 23-25, at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.
Rehg is the first Wahine to qualify for this event. She finished second at last weekend's Pacific Coast Championships, where the winner was guaranteed a berth in the national competition.
Yesterday, a second berth was awarded to the Pacific regional, which was given to Rehg. She has sailed for Hawaii for three years and competes in both the coed and women's regattas.
YORGASON CITED: Jeremy Yorgason, a junior forward on the Brigham Young-Hawaii men's soccer team, was named the Pacific West Conference player of the week.
Yorgason scored two goals and had an assist as the Seasiders defeated Hawaii Pacific last week, 4-1.
EVANS, MAILER AT GEORGE FOX: Hawaii Baptist product Rachel Evans and Brandy Mailer, a Kamehameha Schools graduate, are competing for the George Fox University women's volleyball team in Newberg, Ore.
Evans is a senior defensive specialist and Mailer is a freshman right-side hitter for the Bruins (12-1), who are ranked No. 17 in the NAIA.
"Evans' defense is the best I've ever seen over a sustained period of time," said coach Steve Grant. "When we don't need a spectacular play, she plays consistently, but when we need that spectacular play, she comes through with it."
HAWAII BASKETBALL ACADEMY: Kalaheo High's Pete Smith and Chico Furtado are the featured coaches at the Hawaii Basketball Academy's second fall session.
The six-week clinic is held every Sunday from Nov. 15 to Dec. 27 at the Kalaheo High gym. The academy is open to boys and girls, ages 8-18. The cost is $125 per player, which includes a game jersey. For information, call Ed Nishioka at 597-8212.
