Football Fever contestWhether it is beginner's luck or a previously untapped talent matters little. Potter correctly picked eight of 10 games last week. Her ballot was the first chosen among those with equal or better records than the top celebrity panelist, making her the fifth winner of $500 and four tickets to the Jeep Oahu Bowl.
"I just look at the scores and how they are doing," Potter said of her methods.
One look and she said she had no problem picking Southern Methodist to defeat Hawaii Saturday night.
"I had no problem with that one," she said with a laugh. "It's so sad that they're not doing as well as they should, yeah?"
The top panelists last week were KINE-FM morning show host Brickwood Galuteria and Star-Bulletin assistant sports editor Randy Cadiente.

MOLOKAI TO OAHU RACE: More than 70 crews are expected for the 47th annual Molokai-to-Oahu world championship men's canoe Sunday.
The race starts at 7:30 a.m. off Molokai's Hale O Lono Harbor. The first canoe is expected to reach the Fort DeRussy Beach finish after noon.
WAHINE FOURTH: The Hawaii women's cross-country team placed fourth in the Willamette Invitational at Salem, Ore.
Lisa Davis was the first UH runner to finish, in 91st place in 19 minutes, 41.59 seconds.
Other teammates that scored were Erin McNeal (101st, 19:46.87), Sadie Martin (121st, 20:00.57), Kristina Liddell (170th, 20:41.35), and Adrianne Mundy (187th, 20:55.30.)
Hawaii had 119 points. First-place Oregon had 28.
UH MEN SECOND: The Hawaii Rainbows golf team was in 16th place after two rounds of the Northwest Classic at Corvallis, Ore., yesterday.
Hawaii shot a 301-297--598 (22 over par). Jarrod Mizisawa was the top Rainbow finisher, tied for 45th with a 76-72--148 (4 over par).
Russ Nygard was a shot behind and tied for 53rd after a 77-72.
Louis Mexia was in 76th place (74-78--152, 8 over par) and Van Wright was tied for 84th (75-79--154, 10 over par).
HOOPII, THEODORSON WIN: Holly Hoopii and Jason Theodorson won the Oahu Junior Tour bowling tournament at the Subase Lanes last weekend.
Hoopii beat Laura Matsushima, 185-171, for her 11th title. Theodorson beat Jason Kuromoto, 237-169, for his fifth title.
JAMILA MISSES CUT: Damien Jamila of Waimanalo, Hawaii, shot a rain-delayed 82 yesterday and missed the qualifying cut for the U.S. Mid-Amateur, which began match play, today in Dayton, Ohio.
Jamila had a 36-hole score of 154. The cut for the low 64 qualifiers was 147.
AH YUEN, KIM OUT: Hawaii's Mahina Ah Yuen missed qualifying for the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur in a seven-way playoff yesterday in Houston.
She was one of seven tied with a 36-hole score of 158 battling for the final four spots in the 64-player match-play field.
Also failing to make the cut was Mona Kim of Honolulu, who had a 36-hole score of 173.
GIRL SCOUT HONOREES: The Girl Scout Council of Hawaii will hold its 1998 Sports Women of Distinction Awards on Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
Barbara "Bobbie" Perry (volleyball Olympian), Jackie Liwai Pung (LPGA professional), Pokey Watson Richardson (swimming Olympian), Rell Sunn (surfing pioneer) and Dr. Donnis Thompson (former UH Director of Women's Athletics), will be the honorees.
