Aiding retirement at
Kapiolani Health

Gail Lerch has been promoted to vice president of human resources for Kapiolani Health, the nonprofit holding company for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children and other Kapiolani facilities.

"One of the things we're doing is assisting our employees with retirement planning," Lerch said. "There is a big interest in this from our employees."

She has 10 years of experience in human resources and has been Kapiolani's director of human resources since 1992. She joined Kapiolani 11 years ago as a nurse manager and later worked as a nurse recruiter. Lerch came to Hawaii in 1982, during Hawaii's shortage of nurses, after being recruited on the mainland by Queen's Medical Center. "I came for a six-month temporary job and never left," she said. Lerch got a bachelor's in nursing from Purdue University and a master's in business administration from Hawaii Pacific University.
