Touting the tuba

Bill Dana will narrate the Honolulu Symphony production of "Tubby the Tuba," at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.

The program consists of music, dance by Ballet Hawaii and its Youth Ensemble and the narration of the story by comedian Dana, famous for his Jose Jimenez character.

The family-oriented event, one of the symphony's Tesoro Ohana series, features the story of the tuba who feels that other brass instruments have more interesting music to play. He later discovers it's his oom-pah sound that makes him unique and important.

Tubby's friends Bullfrog and Peepo will be played by Holly Chung and Peter Rockford Espiritu.

Tickets are $12 and $15 and are available by calling the symphony ticket office at 538-8863. Also, 100 discounted tickets at $7.50 will be available the day of show.
