What ever happened to Faith Ogawa, chef instructor at Kapiolani Community College? What year was it that she was one of Hawaii's first women chefs? Ex-chef instructor
works on Big Isle"Today, I'm entirely on my own," said Ogawa, a Waipahu native who lives with 13-year-
old son Kahlil Dean in Kamuela on the Big Island.
"I have my own business called Faith & Friends, and what I do is I do food consulting, I do promotion, and I do private chef work on this coast and for celebrities."
Among Ogawa's list of diners is Vice President Al Gore and his family, for whom she served a 20-
dish dinner of local products during their recent Hawaii vacation.
"And then I do food styling for all of Sam Choy's cook books," she said. "He has a new one coming out, called 'The Choy of Seafood,' in a couple of weeks."
Ogawa was chef instructor at Kapiolani Community College from 1987-1989. Previously, she worked as a chef at the Yacht Harbor Restaurant and as sous chef at the Regent International of Fiji.
In 1989, Ogawa moved to the Big Island, where she assisted in the opening of the Canoe House Restaurant at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows, then worked at the Mauna Lani Resort for five years as a restaurant manager.
Ogawa said people may write to her at: P.O. Box 6002, Kamuela, Hawaii, 96743. Her phone/fax no. is 885-5013. Her e-mail address is: faith@aloha.net.
"I'm living in the moment and I'm very happy," Ogawa said. "Tell everyone I'm fine. I'm glad somebody is thinking about me."
