Thomas Young has been promoted to direct Oahu operations of the Gas Co.

His responsibilities include overseeing the synthetic natural gas manufacturing plant, gas utility pipeline operations and liquid propane gas supply and distribution.

"Our key objective is to maintain our system and its reliability," Young said.

"We just completed major maintenance and repairs at the SNG (synthetic natural gas) plant.

"The results came out good. The plant will be 25 years old next May."

He joined the Gas Co. in 1981 as an assistant chemist and most recently was the manager of manufacturing and supply for the SNG plant at Campbell Industrial Park.

Young also worked 11/2 years as a research assistant at the University of Hawaii department of agronomy and soil science. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Hawaii.
