Campbell, Farrington
put up zeros
The Sabers and the Governors

battle to a scoreless tie in
the OIA contest
Star-BulletinFarrington coach Skippa Diaz and Campbell coach Darren Hernandez, both burly ex-linemen, probably wish they could have arm-wrestled to break the tie.
The Governors and Sabers battled to a frustrating 0-0 tie before 1,816 fans in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Red Conference matchup last night at Aloha Stadium.
But after getting pounded by Waianae and Kahuku, respectively, last week in their season openers, both teams found some encouragement in the deadlock.
"Any time you get a tie in this conference, it's worth something," Diaz said.
Campbell had a chance to win the game with 23 seconds left, but Farrington's Ryan Rosa-Lasco blocked Keoni Areola's 27-yard field-goal attempt.
Rosa-Lasco grabbed the ball on the fly and returned it to the Farrington 43. Governors quarterback Nicholas Tiqui ran 25 yards to the Campbell 37, but time ran out.
"We set up the block by putting an extra guy on the right side so we could get a better angle to the ball," Diaz said. "He (Rosa-Lasco) turned his body like a plastic man and blocked the ball with his left hand."
Hernandez said his team accomplished one important goal.
"We did a good job running the ball and that's what we wanted to do," he said.
"We didn't want to have to rely on our sophomore quarterback (Vincent Lemau)," added Hernandez, who started all-purpose athlete Keola Noda behind center.
Campbell had 13 first downs to Farrington's 6.
Leading the Sabers' 165-yard ground attack was senior running back Jason Albritton, who gained 114 yards on 19 carries.
Farrington rushed for 130 yards, led by Tiqui's 66.
