Bowl Games’
Straight A’s ticket
program in 10th year

Bowl Games of Hawaii announced yesterday that its 1998 Straight A's informational fliers have been distributed to all public schools and most private schools in Hawaii this week.

To mark the 10th year of the Straight A's program, the first 500 children from kindergarten to grade 12 who send proof of earning perfect grades on their first-quarter report cards will receive two free tickets to the Jeep Aloha Bowl and two more to the Jeep Oahu Bowl, plus a commemorative cap.

The two bowl games will be played on Christmas Day at Aloha Stadium.

Truth Contest Hilton Families who have not received informational fliers through their children's school may call the Bowl Games office at 947-4141.

IRWIN HEADS KAANAPALI FIELD: Defending champion Hale Irwin, a six-time winner this year, will be one of the golf headliners next month in

the EMC2 Kaanapali Classic on Maui, the only full-field Senior PGA Tour event in Hawaii.

Eight other 1998 Senior Tour winners will play for the $150,000 first prize in the Oct. 23-25 tournament at the Kaanapali North Course.

ESPN will televise all three rounds.

MERCEDES GOLF TICKETS: Phone orders for tickets to the Mercedes Championships at Maui's Kapalua Plantation Course Jan. 7-10, the first official PGA Tour event of the 1999 season, will be taken by The Connection, 1-800-333-3388.

Tickets also can be purchased at various locations on Maui: Kapalua Resort's golf pro shops, the Honolulu Store, the Kapalua Logo Shops and Body & Bath Shop and the information booth at Kaahumanu Shopping Center.

UH HARRIERS IN SAN FRANCISCO MEET: The University of Hawaii women's cross-country team will compete in the seventh annual San Francisco Invitational meet tomorrow in Golden Gate Park.

The University of San Francisco will host 12 other schools for the four-mile race.

Running for the Wahine will be Lisa Davis, Jodi Enomoto, Kristina Liddell, Erin McNeil, Sadie Martin, Adrianne Mundy and Brandi Washington.

Johnny Faerber is beginning his 26th season as the UH harriers' coach.

TURTLE BAY TENNIS: The entry deadline for the Sept. 18-20 Hilton Fall Tennis Classic at the Hilton Turtle Bay Resort is 5 p.m. today.

There will be men's and women's singles in the 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 classes and doubles. Players must be 19 or older and have a USTA/NTRP rating.
