Looking to spruce up Waikiki

The Waikiki Improvement Association has named Rick Egged as its new president, replacing David Dodge, who recently moved to the mainland. Egged, former director of the state Office of Planning, took over on Sept. 1

"Some of my first projects are the business improvement district, the City Council's newsstand bill (Bill 109) and Ala Wai canal improvements," Egged said.

While with state government for 71/2 years, Egged worked on land-use issues, including redevelopment of Barbers Point Naval Station, Kaneohe Bay task force, the University of Hawaii West Oahu campus, and East Kapolei developments. He also was chairman of the Waikiki Planning Working Group, an intergovernmental collaboration for renewal of Waikiki. Egged also managed Waimanalo Dairy and owned a market research firm, Surveys Hawaii Co., before joining the state government.
