


Four spots in the $30,000 Cuervo Gold Beach Volleyball Tour National Finals will be up for grabs when the Cuervo two-person tour hits Hawaii beaches Sept. 12 and 13 at Waikiki and Ft. DeRussy. Beach spikers to
go for goldThe first- and second-place finishers from the men's and women's Cuervo Gold divisions will advance to the Oct. 24-25 national championships at Fort Lauderdale, Fla. There also will be competition in AAA, A, B and coed divisions.

HAWAII BASKETBALL ACADEMY: The Hawaii Basketball Academy, featuring Kalaheo High School coaches Pete Smith and Chico Furtado, is offering five six-week sessions for girls and boys, ages 9-18.
The cost is $125 per session. The sessions are on Sundays at the Kalaheo High gym, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for ages 9-13, and 2:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. for ages 14-18.

OAHU TENNIS TEAMS DOMINATE: Eight Hawaii teams advanced to the national championship round of the largest adult recreational tennis league in the world with victories in the USTA/Hawaii Pacific Sectionals last weekend on Maui.
The women's winners from Oahu were Get-A-Grip (3.0), Island Wahines (4.0) and Kaneohe Wahines (4.5), with Maui's Pilialoha team taking the 3.5 title. The men's winners were Mixers (3.0), Na Kolohe (3.5), Team WRS (4.0) and Kaneohe (4.5), all from Oahu.
HUNTING, FISHING FETE: Hawaii sportsmen are invited to take their best shots at hunger by exchanging canned food or cash donations for coupons to participate in various competitions during the celebration of the National Hunting and Fishing Day weekend Sept. 26-27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kokohead Shooting Range.
Among the activities are skeet, .22 rifle/handgun, muzzleloader, archery, airgun and fish casting.

MARINE BASE RACE: The Dental Devil Dog Dash, a challenging 10.5-kilometer run through Marine Corps Base Hawaii on Kaneohe Bay, will be held Oct. 9, with a 5:45 a.m. start and a 6:30 a.m. getaway for late entrants.
The registration fees are $12 for DoD I.D. card holders and $15 for civilians. Formation entry fees are $25 with a limit of no more than 15 runners per formation. A $5 late fee will be added for entries received after Oct. 2. T-shirts will be given to the first 100 entrants, with all others to receive T-shirts at a later date.
Race-packet pickups will be from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 7-8 at the base Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department Athletic Office (Bldg. 3037).
TORNADOS TAKE TITLE: The Leeward Tornados beat teams from Wailuku and Mililani to win the Under 10 Division title in the recent Hawaii Cup soccer tournament on Maui.
Members of the championship team are Armando Woodson, Kelii Haole, Donny Gulledge, Kekoa Osorio, Daniel Garcia, Kawika Mahoe, Nicholas Kim, Zachary Potter, Keoki Haole, Kea Hashimoto, Kawika Akasaki and Joshua Woodward. Jon Haole is the head coach and Gary Akasaki the assistant coach.
