If a neighbor won't stop
late-night noise, call 911

I have a neighbor that owns a very loud moped. He is constantly working on it, then reviving up the engine to test it. The noise is disturbing, especially after 9 at night. He seems oblivious to the disturbance. What can I do?

You didn't say what steps have been tried to alleviate your situation. You could first talk to your neighbor. He may not realize the problem he is creating.

If the problem persists, I suggest you call 911 when your neighbor decides to test his engine at night and then let the police handle the matter.

I hardly make any long-distance calls. Probably only one every 10 years. I do not call the neighbor islands. I do not use the Internet. Must I have a long-distance carrier?

No, you do not have to have a long-distance carrier, says Keith Kamisugi, spokesman for GTE Hawaiian Tel. If you have a carrier and want it removed, call GTE Hawaiian Tel at 643-3456 and a service representative can assist.

After then, if you ever have to make a long-distance call, all you have to do is to dial any long-distance carrier's seven-digit access code before dialing "1," the area code and the long-distance phone number. That access code can be obtained from any of the long-distance carriers.

I am looking for USS Missouri memorabilia. Any advice on where to locate such items?

Start with the USS Missouri Memorial Association at 965-A4 N. Nimitz Highway. They have T-shirts, caps and other items for sale. Phone number is 545-2263, e-mail: bigmo@pixi.com. Or contact the mainland organization for the "Mighty Mo:" The USS Missouri (BB-63) Association; 8 Ingleside Ave.; Norwalk, CT 06850.

Auwe

To drivers who ignore stop signs or red lights. You must make a complete stop at the stop line and not just turn right without stopping. Please review the Hawaii Drivers Manual for information. Get out of bad driving habits. -- R.H.

Auwe!!!

To the white Plymouth van blocking the ramp at Kahala Mall by the entrance to the outside elevator in the parking lot. The driver sat in the van and just watched as I tried my hardest to get down the curb with my shopping cart, with my baby sitting in it. I didn't ask her to move because I don't know what a person like that is capable of.

Auwe, too, to Kahala Mall management for not making sure guards don't enforce the parking restrictions. What's the point of having parking stalls or delivery zones?
