takes last LookN EWSMAKERS: Dr. Look, the Honolulu optometrist that the late Herb Caen couldn't resist including in his "namephreaks," has died. The retired optometrist, full name Dr. Yim Fee Look, was 75 ... We get results: No sooner did we mention that Linda Lingle's web page on the Internet listed Nov. 19 as being general election date, someone managed to get it changed to the correct date, Nov. 3 ... Anyone else notice that the TV ads for both Lingle and her opponent in the primary, Frank Fasi, are voiced by the same guy? True ... The new ZipLane won't be a FlyBy lane, as some wags have suggested. Cops say they intend to ticket speeders in that lane. So let's get this straight, the extra lane is there so you can go at the same speed as the cars not in the ZipLane? I'm unclear on the concept. Or someone is ...
THE man who single-handedly came up with and popularized those "Live Aloha" bumper stickers, Paul Klink, was cruising down Kalakaua the other day. His son Leo was strapped in his baby seat and, as usual, was being quiet and well behaved. Suddenly the youngster convulsed and pounded on the window, screaming, "Kazaam! Kazaam! Kazaam!" Klink was confused until he scoured the sidewalk and spotted Shaquille O'Neal, who stars in the film "Kazaam," strolling along with an older couple. Leo, who's seen "Kazaam" numerous times on GET's new wireless digital cable "Americast," now tells all, "I saw 'Kazaam.' "

A drawing was held for free tickets to the upcoming C&K Reunion concert Sept. 5 and 6 at the Honolulu Zoo ... Then there's Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom and Willie K, whose musical hour "Hot Hawaiian Nights" airs Friday at 7 p.m. with a rebroadcast on Sunday, Aug. 30, on KHNL-TV. "G&K"??? ...THERE'S a movement afoot on the Big Island to make it illegal to build a food irradiator. I'll leave it to others to argue the merits of whether or not one's food should be irradiated, but when the petition for such a bill was submitted to the County, Naomi Cohen of Partners Against Irradiation brought along a bottle of champagne to celebrate. Problem No. 1: It was announced that it's illegal to drink on Country property. Problem No. 2: It was pointed out that the champagne cork surely was irradiated, as virtually all are. Suggestion: Smash the bottle against the building and consider the movement launched ...

AFTER a monthlong sabbatical to England, Dan Chun of Hawaiian Islands Ministries is back home. In England, Chun spoke to over 650 people attending a centennial birthday celebration for British theologian C.S. Lewis. The homesick Chun played Kolea's "No Ka 'Ohana" while touring the Scottish and English countryside. En route home, Rev. Chun and his family stopped off in Silicon Valley and met with Mac evangelist Guy Kawasaki, who serves on the board of Hawaiian Islands Ministries as well as at the altar of Macintosh. He revealed he's about to launch garage.com, a web site that will match venture capitalists with entrepreneurs, much as the early Mac-nuts did in California garages in the '70s and '80s ...
