Dems told not to mail to state offices
Democratic Party chairman Walter Heen is warning Democrats not to send campaign literature to state government offices.Heen said that in a recent Democratic Party mailing "material may have been delivered in error to a few members at their government workplaces."
Two months ago, Heen called a news conference to say that the Republicans had violated state ethics laws when the GOP also mistakenly sent a political mailing to a state office.
Today, however, Heen said his campaign organization isn't always able to recognize an address as being a state office.
Heen said any partisan activity in a state office is improper and is not condoned by the Democratic Party.
ZipLane gets big test as students hit the road
Nearly 2,000 cars zipped through the H-1 Freeway's new ZipLane as it faced its biggest challenge this morning with 40,000 University of Hawaii and community college students returning to the classroom.Although no major problems were reported, transportation department officials said there should have been more zip in traffic. "There were too many cars traveling beneath the speed limit of 55 mph," said spokeswoman Marilyn Kali.
Kali said there were no problems this morning with cars trying to overtake each other -- a dangerous and prohibited practice. But there were other problems. "A lot of cars just had one person in them," Kali said, "and there were others where people weren't wearing seatbelts."
