chain is growingAS Anita Hall was belting out "Making Whoopee" at David Paul's last Saturday night, Lisa Bos explained why she has good reason to make whoopee. Lisa sold her Castle Surf condo, got a great deal on another at Kahala Beach, and is opening a Panini Grill at Ala Moana Center's Food Court and a Gourmet Express at the Daiei Kaheka store. So she tossed a blast at her Castle Surf digs last Saturday. Caterer to the Stars Steve Ozark helped Lisa. Later, Bos lady and friends went to see the popular Hall. Anita is backed by pianist-singer Lenny Keyes and sax player Rocky Holmes. Hall is heavy on jazz but also eases into ballads such as a moving "Someone to Watch Over Me" and a soulful "Since I fell for You." She has terrific range. Sometime back, Anita won an opera scholarship to Indiana U. but decided on jazz and pops ...
Wally Yonamine honored
SPORTS great Wally Yonamine was made an honorary member of the Roosevelt High Class of '48 at the 50th reunion of the class last week at Oahu Country Club. Yonamine, the ex-Farrington star and the first American to play pro baseball in Japan, is married to the former Jane Iwashita, RHS '48. Tall John Maguire and short Jason Yuen cracked "Mutt and Jeff" jokes as they emceed. Lila Lee was door prizes chairwoman. Class President Barbara Davis Minton spoke. Retired police Sgt. Leo Porter gave the invocation with feeling. Bertram Komenaka was praised for his reunion work. AS the Makaha Sons -- Moon Kauakahi and John and Jerome Koko -- sang beautiful harmony in Sam Choy's packed Diamond Head restaurant Wednesday, a jubilant Sam said: "I'm so happy being born and raised on the island. We need to reborn this state," he said, in pure Choy-ese. "We have to wake up this state and let people who come here get the mana. This is it right here. Great music, great food and great company."
