


St. Louis kicks off
prep preseasonSt. Louis School, Hawaii's premier prep football team for more than a decade, kicks off the preseason against Kansai, Japan's defending high school champion, at 7:30 tonight at Aloha Stadium.
There are 11 games scheduled for tomorrow night and two more for Saturday night, including a bout between two-time Samoa champion Samoana and McKinley at Roosevelt Stadium.
Cal Lee's St. Louis Crusaders, ranked 24th among USA Today national prep powers, feature a new No. 1 quarterback, junior Timmy Chang, who succeeds all-star Jason Gesser.
The Kaisers of Kansai, who faced St. Louis in a controlled scrimmage two years ago, will rely on team speed to offset the Crusaders' hefty size advantage.
Tomorrow's schedule includes an Aloha Stadium doubleheader pitting Campbell against Damien at 5:30 p.m. and Kamehameha against Farrington at 8.
Kahuku entertains Morse High of California at 7:30. Other 7:30 pairings are Aiea at Mililani, Kalaheo at Kailua, Kaimuki at Roosevelt, Konawaena vs. Kalani at Kaiser, Waimea at Leilehua, Moanalua at Pearl City, Nanakuli at Waipahu and Pac-Five at Waianae.
In addition to the Samoana-McKinley matchup at 7:15 p.m., Saturday; Maui is at Punahou at 1 p.m.; Iolani plays Waiakea at Francis Wong Stadium in Hilo at 4 p.m.; Castle is at Radford at 7:30 p.m. Kaiser journeys to Kauai to take on Kapaa at 7 p.m.
