Dack of Aquaria hosts "Queer Cabaret" tomorrow.
The Honolulu Gay & Lesbian Cultural Festival and the ninth annual Adam Baran Honolulu Gay & Lesbian Film Festival begin tomorrow. Gay & Lesbian
festival beginsTo start the weeklong event, Diamond Head Theatre will hold a "Queer Cabaret," 8 p.m. tomorrow. Dack of Aquaria will host a lineup of favorites, including Matt Yee, Kim Char Meredith and Catherine Hage. Tickets are $10-$12 and can be purchased at the door.
For something quieter, a postcard exhibit titled "Fit to be Tied: An Artist's Look at Weddings," will be displayed Monday through Aug. 29 at The Pegge Hopper Gallery. The opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday.
Also at the gallery, a "Queer Poetry/Performance Art Slam" will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and next Thursday.
Tickets for the "slam" are $4-$6 and seating is limited for both nights.
Admission to the postcard exhibit is free.
Film buffs can enjoy an array of films at the Honolulu Academy of Arts Theatre. Cost per film is $4-$6. Festival passes, which allows entry to all events, are available for $60-$75 pre-sale. The schedule of films is:
"Love Story," 6 p.m., and "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend," 8 p.m. Saturday.
"Boyz Shorts," 6 p.m., and "Dandy Dust," 8 p.m. Monday.
"Groove on a Stanley Knife," 6 p.m., and "Anything Boys Can Do," 8 p.m. Tuesday.
"Alles Wird Gut," 6 p.m., and "We're Funny That Way," 8 p.m. Wednesday.
"Girrlz Shorts," 6 p.m., and "Treyf," 8 p.m. next Thursday.
"Sabor A Mi," 6 p.m., and "Toute Vitesse," 8 p.m. Aug. 28.
To end the festival, the film "The Human Race" will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 with a reception to follow in the academy's cafe at 8:30 p.m. The film is about the Survivor, the only contender in the 1997 TransPacific Yacht Race with a crew of HIV-positive men. Tickets for the film and reception are $20-$25.
