Church restoration begins

Photography by George F. Lee, Star-Bulletin

A crane operated by the Hauoli Fumigation Co. is
used to bring the tent over the Kaumakapili Church yesterday
afternoon. The termite treatment is the beginning of a
restoration project for the church, which was built in 1911.
The Kaumakapili Church was established 160 years ago by
Congregational missionaries. The current building replaced a
wooden structure destroyed in the 1905 Chinatown fire.
