Bullet Bernardo V. Acido, 71, of Laupahoehoe, Hawaii, a retired sugar processor panman for the former Hamakua Sugar Co., will be remembered in services Friday and Saturday. He died in Queen's Hospital after a car accident July 31 in the Honokaia area, north of Honokaa, Hawaii. Bullet Mabel P. “Aunty Mabel” Ako, 85, of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, a retired nursery school teacher at Mokuaikaua Nursery School, died last Tuesday in Kona Community Hospital. She was also owner of Napua Lauhala Gift Shop at Kaumalumalu Beach and owner of a home day-care center. Born in Kona, Hawaii, she is survived by son Antone T. Jr.; daughters Rebecca Pontes, Aileen Pi, Mabel P. Dannelley and Carlotta Gomes; brother John Lee; sisters Nancy Springsted and Mary Catudio; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Bullet Allen M. Best, 72, of Kaneohe, a retired oceanographer for the U.S. Navy, died Thursday in Kaneohe. Bullet Donald J. Brush, 75, of Santa Rosa, Calif. and formerly of Honolulu and Kailua, a retired lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Air Force, died Aug. 5 in Santa Rosa, Calif. He was also a project manager for Holmes & Narver. Born in Santa Rosa, Calif., he is survived by sons Robert J. and Brian J.; daughter Barbara J. Bullet Kainalu K. Pegeder, infant son of Girley Ann M. Napohaku and Michael K. Pegeder, died Aug. 9 in San Diego. He is also survived by a brother and grandparents Cecelia P. Aki, James D. Bullet Arthur Song, 87, of Los Angeles and formerly of Hawaii, a retired teacher, died July 28. He was also an actor for Honolulu Community Theatre at Fort Ruger. He also was a day actor in the television series “Kung Fu” and “M*A*S*H” and movies “The Flower Drum Song,” “The Revolt of Mamie Stover” and “Day of the Locust.” Born in Wahiawa, he is survived by wife Jessie; sons Vernon, Allen and Arthur Jr.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson. His ashes were scattered off Ala Moana.
