Chinese gala

Photography by George F. Lee, Star-Bulletin

Xi gong master Wu Sheng paints the Chinese character for dragon,
and dedicates it to the people of Honolulu, at the opening ceremony
yesterday for the Chinese Cultural Festival. The festival is being held
at the Dole Cannery and runs through the end of the month.
It will be open from 2 to 10 p.m. Sunday through
Thursday and 2 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Loretta Pang has a closer look, below, at a Chinese dragon lantern
in the Nine Dragon Hall at the Chinese Cultural Festival at
the Dole Cannery on Wednesday.

At bottom, spectators seem to be in awe of the towering
fountain lanterns in the Grand Lantern Hall.
