
Kapono Educational Services kids took three of six places in a children's writing contest sponsored by Children's Literature Hawai'i. Kids have write stuff
Winners in grades three and four are:
First: Leiah May Fournier, Kapono Educational Services
Second: Scott Walker, Hawai'i Preparatory Academy
Third: Kate Cuccaro, Waikoloa Elementary School
Grades five and six winners:
First: Rex Ko'opualau Matsuo, Kapono Educational Services
Second: Marisa Pang, Kapono Educational Services
Third: Weixin Matsuoka, Wilson Elementary School
The winners each received an autographed book by children's author Eve Bunting and a T-shirt.
The conference also sponsored a contest for adult writers of children's stories, and one for children's stories written in Hawaiian.
Prizes for these two contests were $150, $100 and $75 for first through third place, respectively.

Second: Rebecca Saxton for "Marcella's Three Tests"
Third: Julie Oshiro for "Remembering Blake"
Winners of the Hawaiian-language contest are:
First: K. Kalani Akana for "Ka Elepaio Kolohe"
Second: Miki'ala Ayau for "Ka'ohele"
Third R. Kekaianiani Irwin for an untitled story.
