Branton B. "Bal" Dreyfus has been selected to manage the Hawaii-area operations for Matson Navigation Co.

Matson plans a 25 percent cut in West Coast service to Hawaii. Effective Aug. 12, the four ships calling weekly on Hawaii ports will be cut to three. Dreyfus called this a "resizing" of the fleet to support the market. He has 23 years in transportation management, and recently was Matson's Southern California area manager.

Before joining Matson in 1993, he worked for United States Lines Inc. from 1975-1987, and Sea-Land Service Inc. from 1987- 1993. At Sea-Land he managed business in Hawaii/Guam, the Philippines, Thailand, Indo-China, and Tacoma, Wash. For Matson, Dreyfus was general manager for sales in San Francisco, and area manager for Northern California. He earned a bachelor's in business administration from the University of San Francisco.
