"Unique Heritage," clay works by Ho Ik Kang, opens Sunday at the Queen Emma Gallery in the Queen's Medical Center Main Lobby. A reception for the artist will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Life from the mud
Kang hails from Choongchung-bukdo, a southern province of Korea. Born to a farming family, he grew up playing in a mud pond and became fascinated by mud later on when he met a jar maker who taught him how to use a throwing wheel.
Kang's organic forms combine aspects of the natural environment of his youth and the geometry of modern times.
Today, as Kang works with clay he says, "I sense the same excitement that I had as a child, and I could still hear my mother saying, "Are you still playing with mud?"
The show continues through Sept. 6. Call 547-4397 for more information.
