What ever happened to the automated refuse collection which was to have started in the Kaneohe area April 13, but was halted because of a strike by the refuse collectors? Kaneohe refuse
talks continuingAutomated refuse collection, expected to save the city millions, has been put on hold indefinitely, according to city spokeswoman Carol Costa.
Until the city and the trash collectors' union, United Public Workers, can finish negotiations regarding pay raises, UPW declines to allow automated trash collection.
UPW has insisted its pay raises were tied to the an agreement for automated trash pickup.
The two sides apparently are still negotiating.
Until the issue is resolved, Costa advises people to keep their 96-gallon trash containers, but still follow the old trash collection method.
