


U.S. airlifts aid suplies to Papua New Guinea
More than 20,000 pounds of emergency supplies have been delivered to New Guinea, which was devastated by a tsunami, by an Air Force C-141 Starlifter crew, the U.S. Pacific Command reported.The 10 pallets included relief supplies such as plastic sheeting, 5-gallon water containers, tents, cots, clothing, tools and medical supplies, and were flown from Guam to Papua New Guinea.
From there the pallets were broken down and loaded into Australian C-130 cargo planes and delivered to the villages where the help is needed.
Two Army physicians from Tripler Army Medical Center also arrived in Papua New Guinea Saturday.
More than 2,000 people are confirmed dead and thousands more are still missing after a 30-foot wave hit the northern coast of the South Pacific island July 17.
Jimmy's Travel loses license for 90 days
The state has stripped Jimmy's Travel Inc. of its travel agency registration.The agency cannot conduct any travel-related business for 90 days under a state Regulated Industries Complaint Office suspension.
Police and state investigators will further investigate the agency during the suspension to determine whether its business license should be revoked.
Anyone wishing to file a complaint against Jimmy's Travel Inc. may call the Consumer Resource Center at 587-3222, then press 2.
Kuakini gets $2 million gift from Moritas
Kuakini Health System tomorrow will receive a $2 million check from Akio and Yoshiko Morita.It's the largest single cash donation to the hospital system. The gift is to help Kuakini advance its telemedicine development and to thank the hospital for care and support the Moritas have received from the staff and doctors. Morita is co-founder of the Sony Corp.
ipThe donation will be used to purchase digital diagnostic imaging equipment, including three instruments that Kuakini says will be the first of their kind in Hawaii.

A cabbie was robbed early today on Dillingham Boulevard and Alakawa Street, the second robbery of a cab driver in two days in Kalihi.Today's robbery was reported at 2:26 a.m.
The driver told police he was robbed of cash at knifepoint by two men.
Another cab driver was robbed of $120 cash yesterday at 4:15 a.m. by three men at School Street and Stillman Lane.
The driver picked up the trio on Kuhio Avenue near Lewers Street in Waikiki.
In a statement to police, he said one of the men grabbed him in a choke hold from behind while another pointed a knife at him.
The men fled on foot in the direction of Kuakini Hospital.
Today's incident was the third cab driver robbery since July 20, when three men stole cash and a cellular telephone at knifepoint from a driver in Waikiki, police said.
Police have made no arrests in any of the cases.
Waipahu man stabbed at big graduation brawl
A 23-year-old Waipahu man, stabbed during a brawl involving an estimated 100 people, is in serious condition at Queen's Hospital, according to police.A police officer, working special duty at a graduation party, reported the Saturday fight on Leokane Street in Waipahu 10 minutes before midnight.
An 18-year-old Kalihi man was treated for facial cuts at Queen's and released.
The case is being investigated as a second-degree assault.
No one has been arrested.
Moiliili man suspected of abusing girlfriend
Charges are pending against a 27-year-old man who allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a steak knife during an argument yesterday at their Moiliili apartment.The man was arrested in connection with abuse of a household member and first-degree terroristic threatening at 7:05 a.m. after returning to his Kaipuu Street apartment.
He allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a 6-inch steak knife after he had punched her in the face two hours earlier, according to the authorities.
Big Island man killed in truck accident
WAIMEA, Hawaii -- A Big Island man died yesterday in a one-vehicle accident on Waikoloa Road in west Hawaii, police said.The name of the victim, from Waimea, was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from his truck when it ran off the road and overturned about 6:30 a.m., police said.
The death was the 22nd traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, compared with 17 at the same time last year.
