Hard Rock to create about 100 jobs in Kona
Hard Rock Cafe International Inc. has picked its management team for its new restaurant in Kona and said it will hire about 100 people to staff it.The Kona Hard Rock Cafe, a two-level, 6,000-square-foot building in the Coconut Grove Marketplace, has scheduled its grand opening for Aug. 23.
The company named Bob Clarke, from Hard Rock Cafe Sacramento, as Kona general manager. The assistant general manager is Burd Patterson, who has run his own restaurant and worked briefly at the Hard Rock Cafe Honolulu.
State to lead October trade mission to Japan
The state will lead a trade mission to Osaka in October to help Hawaii businesses develop relationships with businesses in Japan and to promote Hawaii as a place to do business.The Oct. 19-22 stay will coincide with the Global Business Opportunities Convention featuring a trade fair staged the Japan External Trade Organization.
The state Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism is looking for 10 Hawaii companies to join the mission. Each must have a plan to invest $500,000 and create 10 or more new jobs. For more information call the DBEDT at 587-2762.

Gov. Ben Cayetano has signed a measure that opens the way for creating a state authority to oversee the development of the Hawaii's $2.5 billion maritime industry. The new law creates a temporary commission that will make recommendations to next year's Legislature toward the creation of a permanent state Maritime Authority.
