’Bows to benefit from
Murphy’s Auction July 30

The third annual Murphy's Auction to raise funds for the University of Hawaii football team's training table will be held Thursday, July 30, at Murphy's Bar and Grill, 2 Merchant Street.

Among the prime items on the block are a year's "Preferred Plus" membership to Ko'olau Golf Course, donated by American Golf Corporation and valued at $3,200, and a limited-edition print of Raymond Massey's "The moment of Discovery: Resolution and Discovery off Kawai Point, Kauai," donated by Puna Chillingworth and valued at $4,000.

There also will be a wealth of sports memorabilia and 20 tickets each to the Hawaii-Arizona and Hawaii-Michigan football games.

Admission is $75 and includes all-you-can-eat food, with beverages and entertainment.

Last year, Don Murphy raised more than $50,000 for the Rainbows with the auction. This year, his target is $75,000.

REFUNDS FOR HURRICANES FANS: Honolulu Hurricanes season ticket holders can receive refunds at the Blaisdell ticket office for tomorrow's scheduled Professional Indoor Football League game against the Texas Bullets, which has been canceled because of the visitors' financial difficulties.

Fans who bought "pre-sold" tickets for the game will be able to use them for the Hurricanes' July 25 home game against the Utah Catzz.

MCKEATING MAUNA KEA LEADER: David McKeating fired a 67 yesterday for a 36-hole total of 140 and a three-stroke lead in the individual segment of the Mauna Kea Pro-Am golf tournament on the Big Island.

The pro-am teams headed up by Jim Bellows and Art Schilling shared the top spot with 256 totals.

WAIALAE WOMEN'S INVITATIONAL: Anna Umemura and Faith Inoshita, the low-net champion last year, will compete in the 43rd Waialae Women's Invitational golf tournament July 13-14 at the Waialae Country Club.

Christel Tomori, who won low-gross honors last year, will turn pro and not defend her title.

BURWASH HONORED: Peter Burwash, a former player, teacher and coach in the islands who heads the world's largest international tennis management firm, was presented the first Alii award by the Hawaii Division of the United States Professional Tennis Association at its annual convention last weekend.

Burwash, regarded as one of the top tennis coaches in the world, was honored for his contributions to the sport, his role in raising the standard of the tennis professional and his staffing of national and international clubs and resorts.

Peter Burwash International has more than 90 professionals directing tennis programs at resorts and clubs in 29 countries.
