Isle train fans have
stop on Internet

Formed in 1970 to save what remained of Hawaii's railroad history, the Hawaiian Railway Society has now traveled in cyberspace with a Web site of its own.

Take the Internet tracks to http://members.aol.com/-hawaiianrr/index.html for a ride on Honolulu's last iron horse.

The nonprofit organization is dedicated to preserving the last remaining stretch of track on Oahu -- from Ewa to Nanakuli. So far, 6-1/2 miles have been restored.

If you can't visit the railroad museum, at least stop by the Internet station to check the restoration of the diesel and steam locomotives.

Also of interest is the famous Dillingham parlor car, which once hauled Hawaiian royalty and plantation owners as passengers.

"Home on the Web" is a weekly Friday feature of the Star-Bulletin.
