Poke contest entries due

July 10 is the deadline to submit entries for the 7th Annual Sam Choy Poke Festival. Judges will select 25 professionals and 40 nonprofessionals to participate in qualifying rounds being held in August on several islands. Finalists compete Sept. 27 at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel on the Big Island.

There are categories for traditional poke and cooked poke, as well as separate categories for poke using hokkigai, macadamia nuts, ogo, soy sauce, surimi and tofu.

Entry fees are $40 for professionals and $11 for nonprofessionals. The contest is part of the 1998 Aloha Festivals.
