Eddie Klaneski, released by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League last weekend, says he still wants to play professional football.

Klaneski said last night he planned to visit the Honolulu Hurricanes' practice today and talk with officials of the Professional Indoor Football League team.

Head coach Father John Frederick would like to add Klaneski's talents to the Hurricanes' defense in hopes of improving the team's chances of qualifying for the PIFL playoffs.

The 5-foot-9, 190-pound Klaneski spent five weeks with the Blue Bombers playing in the team's Blue and Gold scrimmage and exhibition games against Hamilton and Montreal.

"It was different. I was starting to learn the Canadian game," he said. "I thought I was improving each day until the last scrimmage when I just didn't do my job."

In CFL terminology, the former University of Hawaii free safety was playing halfback, a combination of safety and cornerback.

"It's actually the toughest position on the field besides quarterback. You've got a lot of one on one and it's a larger field," Klaneski. "A lot of times you have help underneath, but with so much space between the players, it's mostly one on one."

Klaneski said he would rather be playing American football and would attempt to hook up with a team in the NFL's European League next season.

He also has been invited to try out with Winnipeg again next year.
