The top two qualifiers will represent Hawaii in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship July 21-25 in Lake Forest, Ill.
ALL-STARS TO PLAY ON MAINLAND: A 15-member team of local prep all-stars will play in the Capitol Classic Invitational Baseball Tournament in Carson City, Nev., this week.
The all-stars will be coached by Dean Yonamine, who has led Iolani to the last two state high school championships.
The team includes six Interscholastic League of Honolulu all-stars: Iolani third baseman Kainoa Obrey, outfielder Doug Jackson and pitcher Eric Yamamoto; St. Louis first baseman Chad Santos; Kamehameha outfielder Paki Lum and Punahou outfielder Blair Suzuki. Neighbor island all-stars are pitchers Aaron Matsui of Maui and Greg Kagawa of Waiakea .
ISLE GIRLS IN COLORADO TOURNEY: Na Wahine Softball Club, an ASA Jr. Olympic 18-and-under team, will play in the Louisville Slugger Independence Day Softball Tournament at Boulder, Colo., this week.
Na Wahine players are Kim Balles, Christine Ciacci, Nikki Drevno, Kelly Kaaihili, Holly Matsuda, Dayna Ohelo, Estee Okumura, Jovan Okumura, Abby Padasdao, Christine Pascua, Jamie Reyes, Kasey Tabar, Ashley Tokumine, Skylar Tokumine, Aloha Yamaguchi, Kehau Yamaguchi and Kea Yamaguchi.
SUMO MEET AT HO'OLAULEA: The Ko'olauloa Youth Athletic Club will conduct this year's State Sumo Championships at the club's Ho'olaulea Saturday at Hauula Beach Park.
In addition to the sumo tournament, to run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be other sporting events, local-style entertainment, bands, halau, food, games and crafts booths.
The Ho'olaulea begins at 9 a.m. and runs through 6 p.m.
