Audy hosts
electrifying showIT was turn up the Audy-o time at Hy's Saturday night. Normally, the background music for dining there consists of the soft sounds of Audy Kimura, accompanying himself on guitar. And so it was Saturday night until "oldies" D.J. Tom Moffatt and his three dining companions were invited by Audy to take over. Uncle Tom was with guys he introduced to isle airwaves in his K-POI days and still plays today on 107.9FM - Glen Larson and Ed Cobb, two of the original Four Preps, and Dave Somerville, who was lead singer for the Diamonds. They cranked it up and wowed the crowd with a no-holds-barred rendition of the Diamonds' hit, "Little Darlin'." ...
MEANWHILE, Ron Jacobs, Moffatt's former K-POI colleague, now on opposite him on the AM side of the dial on KCCN, was talking yesterday with a publicity rep for "Out of Sight," the George Clooney-Jennifer Lopez movie which Jacobs loved. He tried to sign off, saying he had People magazine's Mitchell Fink on hold. "I know Fink," the guy told Jacobs, so he punched a button and set up a conference call between the three of them. The other two, located about three blocks from one another in Manhattan, ended up making a date to meet for coffee over a phone connection some 5,500 miles away ...
Courting Courtney
IF you're going to need a lawyer, why not one that's a former beauty queen and who bears a striking resemblance to actress Christina Applegate? That would fit the description of Courtney Glaza, who was Miss Hawaii 1994, and living proof that beauty and brains are not mutually exclusive. She just graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, Va., and plans to go into a family law practice and also enter the political arena. In addition, she's coming home in August to marry fellow law school grad Thomas Sansalone. Designer Anne Namba is designing the gowns for the wedding, to be held at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hotel. And Eric Eugene Chandler will be adding his stylish touch to the entire affair ...APOLOGIES to Retired Gen. Fred Weyand, who I erroneously mentioned was with Campbell Estate. In fact, he's a trustee with Damon Estate ... Nancie Caraway advises that Petra Kelly, subject of her prize-winning play, "The Passion of Petra Kelly," was not just passionate about the Green Party and eco-feminism but was in fact "a sexual outlaw." ... Republican State Senate candidate Cindy Rasmussen is making her party affiliation as obvious as possible - she's set up her campaign office at 1630 Republican St. in Kalihi. Coincidentally, her small business is located on Home Rule Street, which separates Republican from Democrat Street ...
Hard act to follow
JUST as Scott Shirai, an AUW-loaned exec from HEI, arrived at the Schiller Group to give a sales pitch for AUW, an aloha party for Michele Kalama was getting under way. Boss Marty Schiller made some remarks and then turned things over to his staff. Four of them, led by Desiree Jeffrey chanting, came out in hula skirt and leis. Andy Tyer, Patrick Torres and Matt Soldan danced to "Hilo Hattie Does the Hilo Hop." Then Matt stripped down and did a kind of "Full Monty" dance and written across his stomach was "I Love You, Michele, xoxo." She won't soon forget that one. At the conclusion of that, karaoke singer Shirai stepped forward and sang, "The Impossible Dream," for AUW's goal to raise $15 million ...
