Swatting millennium bugs

Boyd McCleary heads the team that is preparing the computer systems at St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii for the year 2000.

"We have 3,000 pieces of equipment and one-half-million lines of code that has to be renovated," McCleary said.

He works with several consultant teams from other sectors, such as banks, Hawaiian Electric Company, Honolulu Board of Water Supply and medical suppliers to make certain that their lines of communication are not disrupted after the year 2000.

McCleary has been with St. Francis Medical Center since 1992, most recently as director of projects and systems.

He earned a bachelor's degree in general studies and a master's degree in public health, with an emphasis on health planning and administration, from the University of Michigan.
