Magazine showcases
teen business

Six Big Island teens are featured in the May issue of Young Entrepreneur magazine. Caron Ikeda, Taron Murakami, Meris Ota, Lianne Tanaka, Leslie Uchimura and Carly Ushiroda of Kealakekua and their Aloha Feet Treats, rubber slippers with Hawaiian-print fabric straps, are the subject of an article in the magazine.

The six friends began their business as a project for the Tomodachi 4-H club in 1996 and have been running their business since. They also manufacture tote bags to match the slippers.

Money made went into the club's treasury and the group voted on how to use it for expenses and community service projects. Since the club members graduated from high school this year, they used part of their money for a trip to Maui.
