May standouts

The Honolulu Quarterback Club has named Punahou's Onaona Miller and Bennett Valencia as Sportspersons of the Month for May.

They will appear at Monday's weekly meeting at the Pagoda Restaurant at 11:30 a.m.

Miller led the Punahou girls' basketball team to its second straight state title while Valencia ran two dramatic come-from-behind relay anchor legs to lead the Punahou boys to a successful defense of their state track and field championship.

PERREIRA, REMITICADO TOP LIFTERS: Clifton Perreira of Maui High and Iolani's Jill Remiticado were named the outstanding lifters at last weekend's Hawaii State High School Powerlifting Championships at McKinley High Gym.

Perreira, the overall winner in the heavyweight class, set a meet record in the deadlift portion with 557 pounds. Remiticado won the 123-pound weight class.

Moanalua won the team championship, followed by Maui and Kaiser.

Campbell's Sh'quita Brothers was named Ms Physique and Jonathan Tokuda of Moanalua Mr. Physique.

WAHINE VOLLEYBALL TICKETS: Season ticket renewals for the University of Hawaii women's volleyball team began today and run through June 19.

Tickets can be renewed in person from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Rainbow Baseball Stadium ticket office. Renewals by mail must be postmarked by June 19.

New season tickets sales for the general public go on sale July 6-July 17, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Rainbow Stadium ticket office. Tickets can also be purchased by phone at 944-2697, Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Individual match tickets will be available beginning Aug. 24 at the Stan Sheriff Center box office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Season ticket prices range from $70 for students, upper level, to $155 for lower level. There is a $4 handling fee per order and an additional charge for phone orders.

The 11th Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic is Sept. 4-6, featuring UCLA, Florida, Ohio State and host Hawaii.

MARYKNOLL SEEKS GIRLS' COACH: Maryknoll athletic director Jared Kaufmann is seeking candidates to become the Spartans' head girls' basketball coach.

Kaufmann said the qualified person will also be the basketball coordinator at Maryknoll.

Interested persons should call Kaufman at 973-1895, or send a resume to him at Maryknoll School.

RAINBOW BASEBALL CAMPS: Seven baseball camps are scheduled for Rainbow Stadium this summer starting with a regular camp June 10-13 for youngsters age 7-12.

Other regular camps are June 15-18, July 27-30 and Aug. 3-6.

Hitting camps will be held June 15-18 (ages 7-18) and Aug. 3-6. A play camp (ages 7-12) is set for July 6-9.

The cost is $75 for hitting camps, $130 for regular camps and $150 for the play camp. For more information, call 956-6247.
