Bon dance the night away!Dust off your hapi coats--it's obon season again. Waipahu Cultural Garden Park begins the four-month celebration of the dead Saturday. Bon dance season begins
Festivities begin with a short service and description of obon by the Rev. Shotoshima of Waipahu Hongwanji at 4:45 p.m. Following the opening remarks, several groups will perform different bon dances. Scheduled are Aiea Taiheiji Yagura Gumi, 5:30 and 9:30 p.m.; Waipahu Hongwanji, 6 and 8:30 p.m.; Hawaii Matsuri Taiko, 6:30 p.m.; Young Okinawans, 7 and 9 p.m.; Iwakuni Dance Group, 7:30 p.m.; and Yamada Dance Group, 8 p.m. The public is welcome to join the dancing but hapi coats are requested.
Nondancers can enjoy the entertainment while munching on fried noodles, senbei, saimin or andagi. Pre-ordered bentos will also be available at $5 each.

Honolulu's historic Chinatown district is the subject of a architectural-preservation field school by the University of Hawaii this summer and a primary feature of the Historic Fun Run/Walk this Sunday morning. Appreciate historic
ChinatownIt's also the subject of "Chinatown Revisited: Its Heritage and Culture," a series of public forums sponsored by the University's Historic Preservation Program, the Hawaii Heritage Center and the State of Hawaii Historic Preservation Division.
The forums are 10 a.m. to noon June 6 and 20 on the second floor of Maunakea Marketplace, and 7 to 9 p.m. June 17 in Room No. 323, Moore Hall at the University. Free. Information: 521-2749.
