TEAM TENNIS WINNERS: The Wailuku Junior Tennis Club took first place in the 4.0 Division of the USA Team Tennis Spring Sectional Championships last weekend at the Kiahuna Tennis Club and the Poipu Kai Resort on Kauai.
The Ihilani Breakers won the 3.5 Division crown and the Lihue Acers captured the 3.0 Division title.
ENOMOTO IN WORLD SHOOT: Benton Enomoto of Hawaii will represent the United States in junior division shotgun events at the World Shooting Championships in Spain next month after qualifying third in Trap and second in Double Trap at a recent team selection match at Fort Benning, Ga.
Enomoto and his sister, Bethany, were the first Hawaii residents ever to make a national shooting team when they were named to the Junior Olympic Team on the basis of their showings at the 1997 National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships.
Bethany was unable to compete at Fort Benning because of scholastic commitments.
MIYASHIRO, SAKAZAKI CHAMPS: Dawn Miyashiro of Hilo and Elika Sakazaki of Kauai won the girls' and boys' titles, respectively, in the State Independent Insurance Agents Junior Golf Championships last Saturday at the Sandalwood Course on Maui.
Miyashiro shot a 5-over-par 77 to beat out Oahu's Bridget Dwyer by two strokes in the girls' competition.
Sakazaki took the boys' title when he birdied the par-5 third hole of a sudden death playoff with Jim Seki of Oahu after both shot 1-over 73.
The winners advance to the IIAJC Nationals Aug. 9-14 at Edmond, Okla.
MAUI OPEN THIS WEEKEND: Former champions John Freitas and Dan Nishimoto will be among the 62 pros entered in the 54-hole Maui Open starting Friday.
Two-time defending champion Dick McClean is skipping the event in order to try Monday qualifying on the Senior PGA Tour the next four or five weeks.
The first round for the pro and championship flight will be held at Wailea Blue, the second at Makena South and Sunday's final round at Wailea Gold course.
First place is $2,500.
