Women can escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and explore their spiritual selves at a Hawaiian silent retreat June 19-21 at Kahili Mountain Park on Kauai. Silent retreat promotes
self-discoveryThe retreat involves the use of silence, nature and discussion to help participants focus on where they are in life and what they want to accomplish, co-facilitator Marylene Chun said.
The retreats were introduced by the late Nana Veary, author of "Change We Must: My Spiritual Journey." Veary, who was pure Hawaiian, believed that the basis for Hawaiian religion is being silent and observing, Chun said. The retreats are not connected with any religion or organization. An August retreat will be open to both men and women.
The $150 fee for the June retreat covers instruction, accommodations and meals. Participants make their own transportation arrangements.
