Mile victories for
Lyau and Macdonald

Jonathan Lyau won the men's division and Eri Macdonald the women's in the Kapahulu Mile.

Lyau finished in 4 minutes, 30.8 seconds, edging Gustavo Vareta by two seconds.

Macdonald's time of 5:13.98 easily beat Mareika Ressing's 5:25.40.

RAINBOWS SEVENTH: At New Orleans, the University of Hawaii coed sailing team finished its season with a seventh-place showing at the Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association Team Race Nationals.

Old Dominion won the regatta with an 11-0 record. Hawaii was 5-6.

Sailing for UH were Brent Harrill, Jeff Nelson, Garrett Woodworth, Laura Rehg, June Tomozawa and Len Yonemura.

ANDREWS, KAHIKINA IN FINAL: Dave Andrews and Preston Kahikina advanced to this morning's men's final of the Hawaii Open tennis tournament with semifinal wins yesterday at the Diamond Head Tennis Center.

Andrews beat Mike Heisler, 6-1, 6-2, while Kahikina topped Tony Octong, 6-2, 6-3.

Connie Zepeda won the women's title, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 over Chicadee Moniz.
