Ward plans to build Kakaako theaters
A multi-screen movie theater with reserved seating, beer and wine sales and a light dinner menu is planned for a proposed retail and entertainment development in Kakaako.Simon DeBartolo Group and Victoria Ward Ltd. yesterday said they selected Pacific Theatres to operate the planned theater, which will have at least 11 screens and about 3,000 seats.
The megaplex is planned as part of an 800,000-square-foot retail project, anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue and FAO Schwarz, the two companies intend to develop where Ward Warehouse now stands.The theater's completion is scheduled to coincide with the opening of the retail complex in the fall of 2001, the companies said. The theater will feature a 75-seat screening room with large, plush chairs and side tables, the developers said.
Pacific Theatres is parent of Consolidated Amusement Co., Hawaii's largest theater operator.
Dole acquires importer of fresh cut flowers
Dole Food Co. has purchased Sunburst Farms, the nation's largest importer and marketer of fresh cut flowers, marking the food giant's entry into the $7 billion industry, Dole announced yesterday.Dole, a major agricultural producer in Hawaii, also has purchased the Floramerica companies, Latin America's largest fresh cut flower grower and exporter for the U.S. market.
Those companies have combined annual revenues of $100 million.

BankBoston is buying Robertson Stephens, the investment banking unit of BankAmerica Corp., for $800 million in cash and stock options. BankBoston has been searching for a way to expand its investment banking services.
