All-America teamDons pitcher Chris Gossert, a Waiakea High School grad, received honorable mention on the all-freshman team.
Omori had the best freshman season in USF history, leading the team in eight offensive categories, including batting with a .392 average, home runs (12) and RBIs (57).
Gossert had a 7-3 record, a 4.48 ERA and struck out 42 in 59 innings.
SIERADZKI ASSISTANT PRO CHAMP: Henry Sieradzki of the Ala Wai Municipal Course in Honolulu shot an even-par 72 yesterday for a 36-hole total of 142 and a four-stroke victory in the Zevon Aloha Section PGA Assistant Professional Championship at the Makena Golf Club South Course on Maui.
Kapalua's Brett Eaton was the runner-up after a closing 74. Tied for third place at 147 were first-round leader Kirk Nelson of Makena, who shot 79 yesterday, Johnny Rieger of Ko Olina (75) and Mark Morrison of Kona C.C. (72).
Sieradzki earned a spot in the national tournament for assistant pros Nov. 10-13 in Port Lucie, Fla.
WARRIORS JV WATER POLO VICTORS: Kamehameha was the Interscholastic League of Honolulu junior varsity girls water polo champion by virtue of its post-season tournament triumph.
Members of the Kamehameha team, coached by Justin Ferdinand, were Moani Crowell, Kilohana Lindsey, Cassie Nichols, Kelse Mercado, Azmee Rodd, Cyd Gasper, Bianca Caun, Charis Castillo, Aulani Richardson, Jaire Keiki, Malia Tallett, Malia Maunakea, Stephanie Furlong, Ha'awina Tuzon and Nui Ragsac.
TEAM TENNIS ON KAUAI: The USA Team Tennis Spring Sectional Championships will be held Saturday and Sunday on Kauai with the 23 top teams from the spring season and a total of 522 junior players competing.
The event will be held at the Kiahuna Tennis Club and the Poipu Kai Resort.
BYUH LINES UP SOCCER PROSPECTS: Brigham Young-Hawaii soccer coach Bob Barry has received verbal commitments from Justin Wager, a back defender from Kennewick (Wash.) High School, and Jason Taylor, a forward from Eagle (Idaho) High School to play for the Seasiders next season.
