Utah firm acquires Staffing Partners
Staffing Partners, a Honolulu provider of temporary staffing services, has been acquired by SOS Staffing Services Inc. of Salt Lake City for an undisclosed price.The 10-year-old local company, which has offices in downtown Honolulu and Aiea, will do business as Staffing Partners, a division of SOS Staffing Services.
Staffing Partners had 1997 sales of more than $4 million, up 37 percent from 1996.
The company's predecessor was formed in 1988 as a franchise of Snelling Temporaries and became independent in 1994, taking on its current name.
ResortQuest completes Aston Hotels purchase
ResortQuest International Inc., the company formed in Memphis, Tenn., to acquire Aston Hotels & Resorts in Hawaii and a dozen other vacation-related businesses, said today it has completed those acquisitions.The company sold 5.8 million new shares, which were launched on the New York Stock Exchange Wednesday.
Andre S. Tatibouet, principal owner of the 29-resort Aston, was paid $29.5 million plus 1.7 million of the new shares. Tatibouet remains chairman of Aston.
Tyco buys U.S. Surgical for more than $3 billion
NORWALK, Conn. -- Tyco International Ltd. agreed yesterday to buy U.S. Surgical Corp. for $3.3 billion.U.S. Surgical, which makes products for closing surgical wounds, will operate as a unit of Tyco. Hamilton, Bermuda-based Tyco said an undisclosed number job cuts are likely.
