Kona triathlonStacie Brennisse of Phoenix took the women's title in a course record time of 4:29:25.
Imonen, who also won this event in 1993, '94 and '95, out-sprinted defending champion Luis de la Torre to the finish line. The runner-up was nine seconds back, in 4:03:27.
LUNDGREN WINS: John Lundgren won a playoff with William Hunt to take the the Navy-Marine Golf Course Men's Club Championship yesterday at the Navy-Marine Course.
Lundgren shot a 72--144 to tie Hunt, who shot a final-day 73, before winning the playoff.
COCKETT IN JAMBOREE: Former University of Hawaii standout Nani Cockett will be one of the stars taking part in Saturday's Fifth Annual Hannemann Jamboree women's basketball fest at the Iolani School Gym.
Other stars include former UH stars Brandy Ashby, Fran Villarmia, Nani Flores and Jenny Kaeo.
Games begin at 8 a.m. with the keiki wahine contests. Semifinals between the prep and collegiate teams will be held at 10 and 11:30. The championship game starts at 2 p.m.
The festival is open to the public, free of charge.
KAWANA IN RHYTHMIC GYM NATIONALS: Beth Kawana of Honolulu, who competes for the Rhythmic Gymnastics Academy of Hawaii, qualified earlier this month for the USA Rhythmic Gymnastics National Championships by placing sixth all-around in the Senior Division of the Western Open at Downers Grove, Ill.
The 18-year-old Kaiser High graduate will join more than 50 senior and junior athletes from across the country in the nationals June 5-7 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
