All’s fair in the
50th state

The "Nerveless Nocks," a family of daring aerialists, are among the attractions at this year's 50th State Fair, Friday through June 14 in the Aloha Stadium parking lot.

The Nocks, descended from a Swiss circus family, leap from one 80-foot "sway pole" to another, are hurled through the air in a "space wheel" and ride motorcycles on a high wire. The late TV show host Ed Sullivan once called the Nocks "the greatest circus act I've ever seen."

Other attractions at the fair include the "Hollywood Knockouts," a group of women who box and wrestle competitively, and an aquarium featuring live sharks from Florida, plus the usual rides, game and food booths, and entertainment.

The fair is open 6 p.m. to midnight on Fridays (and June 11), and noon to midnight Saturdays, Sundays and Memorial Day.

Admission is $2.50 from 6 p.m. to midnight, $1.50 noon to 6 p.m., and $1.50 for children 4 to 11 years old. On Pepsi days -- May 31 and June 7 -- admission from noon to 6 p.m. is 50 cents with an empty Pepsi can. On June 14, admission from noon to 6 p.m. is 50 cents with a Fun Factory coupon.
