Takatoriki takes
sumo lead at 6-0

TOKYO -- Takatoriki grabbed the sole lead on the sixth day of the 15-day Summer Grand Sumo Tournament, defeating Higinoumi for a perfect record while two top wrestlers suffered upsets.

Grand champion Akebono, or Chad Rowan from Hawaii, stayed in contention, improving to 4-2 by downing Minatofuji. Musashimaru, or Fiamalu Penitani from Hawaii, lost to Kaio and slipped to 4-2.

In the day's biggest surprise, grand champion Takanohana suffered his first defeat against five wins, losing to lower-ranked Oginishiki.

That loss, combined with Wakanojo's victory over Kyokushuzan, or Mongolian Batbayar Davaa, and Takatoriki's win, broke the previous day's three-way logjam at the top.
