Emme on cover
of Vegas zineLATEST Island cover girl is none other than Emme Tomimbang of "Emme's Island Moments" fame. Her smiling visage is on the cover of 'Ohana, a magazine that's published in Las Vegas but focuses on Hawaii news. She's just begun a column in the magazine and her "Island Moments" show will soon be seen on the Fox station in Vegas. Being a fledgling columnist, she watched with interest as New York Post gossip queen Cindy Adams sidled up alongside Richard Chamberlain and Jim Nabors at the First Bankers Club dinner honoring Donald Trump Sunday night, and observed her surreptitiously taking notes on what the two Hawaii residents were discussing. And I don't know if entrepreneur Trump was the guy who came up with the "2.5 billion potential viewers" for the Miss Universe Pageant, but that's a joke. The final episode of "M*A*S*H" reached an estimated 103 million, according to "Entertainment Tonight," and they're estimating the final "Seinfeld" audience will reach 80 million. With all the network shows airing their final episodes of shows this week, the pageant will be lucky to break into the Top 10 in the U.S. ...

Calling the fire marshal
THE cutter of the cake, fittingly enough, was named Cutter. That would be Jerry Cutter, auto dealership magnate, who was treated to a gourmet birthday dinner by son Nick at -- where else? -- Nicholas Nickolas. It was a joyous occasion for Cutter, who had to blow out 70 candles, cheered on by all his kids, some ex-wives, and 50 of his closest friends and family members, including Maui's Mayor Linda Lingle, a niece. Scruples nightclub co-owners Fred Piluso and David Schutter were also on hand -- they could go into business as Cutter and Schutter -- and exec chef Linda Yamada personally prepared a gourmet feed ...BLUES legends the Bellamy Brothers are being featured in a three night engagement this weekend at Gussie L'Amour's. Opening for them is country singer Dita Holifield ... It took a heap of work, but Danny Kaleikini, Linda Wong and Takao Watabe are planning to have a blessing of their Aloha Ke Akua Chapel at the Historic Kahaluu Fish Pond in Kaneohe on May 29. It's being dedicated to the memory of the late Rev. Abraham Akaka ...
Traversing the Chickway
WHILE it was very nice that the new causeway leading out to Ford Island is being called the Admiral Bernard "Chick" Clarey Memorial Causeway, it's proved to be too cumbersome for people to say. Now Adm. Clarey's widow, Jean, has suggested a neat new nickname for the causeway that fairly rolls off the tongue: "The Chickway." She has one very powerful supporter in the Navy's Pacific Commander, Adm. Archie Clemens, who says he thinks the nickname is just great. You can consider it a done deal ...
