Iolani wins ILH
baseball tourney

Defending league champion Iolani came up with two runs in the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie and defeat Kamehameha, 5-3, for the Interscholastic League of Honolulu tournament championship last night at Aloha Stadium.

The Raiders (14-4-1) will play ILH regular-season champion Mid-Pacific (13-5) tomorrow at 5 p.m. at Aloha Stadium for the overall ILH title.

Iolani, which lost to the Owl, 11-0 and 10-9, this season, has won the last two league championships.

In the top of the seventh inning, Iolani's Jeff Iwashita hit a flare to right field and stretched it into a double as the ball took a bad bounce. Kainoa Obrey walked and Scott Tajima hit a 1-1 pitch into the gap in center to drive in Iwashita and Obrey.

Marvin Wong, Obrey and Erik Yamamoto, who came on in the bottom of the seventh, combined to hold Kamehameha (12-8) to five hits.

Obrey got two outs in the last inning before walking Bronson Sardinha and yielding a single to Paki Lum. He was yanked for Yamamoto, who walked Kaleo Saiki to load the bases, but got Adrian Contreras swinging to end the game.
