Akebono falls to 1-2,
Musashimaru is 2-1

TOKYO -- Wakanohana, seeking promotion to sumo's highest rank, remained undefeated at 3-0, but Hawaiian-born yokozuna (grand champion) Akebono suffered his second upset loss in the 15-day Summer Grand Sumo tournament.

Yokozuna Takanohana and ozeki (champion) Takanonami also stayed at 3-0 and ozeki Musashimaru improved to 2-1.

Ozeki Wakanohana fought off Chiyotaikai's hand thrusts by dodging skillfully and sent him out from behind.

Akebono, or Chad Rowan from Hawaii, drove Tochinonada to the ring's edge with hand thrusts. But Tochinonada twisted him down at the edge, leaving both wrestlers at 1-2.

Takanohana threw down Kotonishiki; Musashimaru, or Fiamalu Penitani from Hawaii, sent out Akinoshima, and Takanonami drove out Aogiyama.

In the 26-member juryo division, No. 9-ranked Yamato, or George Kalima from Hawaii, was pulled down by No. 6-ranked Tomonohana for his third defeat against no victories.
