Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z!
There's a dad we know who sleeps so soundly on the couch that his family once videotaped him as the baby covered him in stuffed animals. Does your dad have an
amazing talent for sleeping? There's another dad we know -- now a granddad -- who would drop into a snoring slumber nightly in front of the television, only to wake up each time someone tried to change the channel. "I'm watching that!" he would proclaim.
And another one who doesn't even bother with the couch, just sleeps on the floor, of course with the TV on.
As much as we hate to generalize, this really does seem like a dad thing, this ability to drop off to sleep many rooms away from his bed, even in a parlor full of relatives on major holidays.
And so, for Father's Day, we present our first-ever "Amazing Sleeping Dad" photo contest. To enter, send in a color photograph of your dad, asleep, anywhere but in his bed. Include a brief statement, 25 words or less, on his sleeping habits.
Photos may be snap-shot size, and content matters more than quality. Other people can be in the picture.
First prize is an 8-by-10 framed version of the winning photo, your dad's favorite snack and a pillow for him to rest his head on.
Send entries to "Amazing Sleeping Dad," Honolulu Star-Bulletin Features section, P.O. Box 3080, Honolulu 96802. Any questions? Call 525-8660.
Deadline is June 9. The top photos will be published June 16, just before Father's Day.
